PREGNANCY & POSTPARTUM CARE +

At Helix Pelvic Health we are passionate about educating patients and empowering mamas to move, strengthen and stretch both during and after pregnancy. We strive to provide individualized care and assist you in initiating your personalized healing journey. Our goal is to help you get back to feeling like you!

Common comments that we hear from both patients and friends:

  • “My back hurts so much I can barely walk; this pregnancy thing is rough.”
  • “Of course, I pee when I laugh and sneeze, I had a baby.”
  • “I pee every 30 minutes because I drink a lot of water.”
  • “I still look pregnant even though I already had the baby, I thought I was supposed to ‘bounce back.’”
  • “I just want to get back to exercise but every time I try, it hurts.”
  • “They said I am “good to go” at my six weeks visit but sex is painful!

Culturally, we have become accustomed to redefining common prenatal and postpartum symptoms as normal. Physical impairments that commonly occur during and after pregnancy include but are not limited to; urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, diastasis rectus abdominis, pubic and low back pain. You don’t have to accept these symptoms as your new normal, and it should not be expected that you live the rest of your life with them. Let us help you feel healthy and strong again.

PEDIATRIC PELVIC CARE +

An important part of treating a woman’s health is helping her children lead healthy lives. People often think of pelvic floor dysfunction as something that affects adults. It is common, however, for pelvic floor issues to begin in childhood. Early intervention for pelvic floor dysfunction can transform the child and family understanding of these conditions.

Common questions we hear from parents:

  • Why does my child struggle with constipation and/or painful pooping?
  • Why does my young athlete wet their pants during sport?
  • Why does my daughter suffer from painful periods?
  • Why is my daughter unable to wear a tampon?

At Helix Pelvic Health we work together with families to identify physiological and environmental contributions to your child’s symptoms. We understand how stressful these conditions can be and are passionate about creating a child-centered plan that is both engaging and productive.

Dance%2BRehabilitation

DANCE REHABILITATION +

Injuries sustained by a dancer’s body are unique due to the extreme stressors placed on the body during this sport. Injuries to the foot, ankle, back, hip and knee are most common. A less discussed, but equally common, response to the high demands of training is urinary incontinence. This typically presents as leakage with jumping, leaping, coughing, or sneezing. Dance related injuries are most likely to occur during the transition to wearing pointe shoes, the pre-adolescent years when muscle length tension relationships are changing and in the teen years when training schedules increase. Dance as a movement pattern, is fundamentally driven by the "core". This muscle group includes the abdominals and pelvic floor. The biomechanics of the core muscles and pelvis are valued at Helix Pelvic Health and are applied to the rehabilitation of all dance related injuries. Ashley combines her dance education experience with rehabilitation and injury prevention principles to best develop an individualized, dance specific plan of care.

"Ashley is super knowledgeable about women’s bodies and all things prenatal and postpartum. She helped me get my pelvic floor and ab muscles back in shape after having 3 babies (probably better shape than before!). She showed me strength exercises and how to use different muscles to decrease pain and improve my running stride. She is a kind and patient clinician, listening to my concerns and issues, and making a practical improvement plan.

Pelvic floor t

herapy should be available and recommended to every postpartum mom. Ashley’s guidance and programs will make you feel better than before. I would recommend her to any postpartum mom (whether you just had a baby or have a 5+ year old) looking to strengthen their body and improve their health."
